It’s not often you find a guide as devoted and engaging as Rassoul. When you do, you’ll never forget the experience. Looking back he and his companion Seif have provided us with our fondest memory of our trip through Iran. A 3-day walking/climbing and even swimming journey in the mountains of the Alamut valley. What made it nice? The company and the intensity. I cannot say this is a journey you should undertake expecting extreme luxury and comfort. Although food and rest is abundant (if you were wondering), the trip is about seeing the valley, walking around and experiencing what views the nomadic herders of Iran get to see on a daily basis. Normal to them, amazing to us. Rassoul picked us up at the railway station, made sure we were fed and took us to his home at the base of the Assassin’s Castle. He, in true Iranian fashion, made us eat again, and gave us a nice cosy room to rest in. The following days we got to hike up the mountains toward our next stay, from where we would branch out. As it happens, Seif is a gifted musician and they are both good chefs. They even changed the menu because some of the other walking guests said he would like to eat fish. A fresh fish was produced out of nowhere (I’m still wondering). The walk up the mountain started early but we made fast progress, Seif singing and humming along the way. From time to time animals were spotted by him, invisible to the untrained eye. Words are lacking by now, but I should just end this by saying: you haven’t been to Iran if you haven’t experienced hospitality as given by Rassoul and his family.

A 5-star guide and a very nice and attentionate guy with an excellent contact with kids. On the top of that, curious and multi-lingual.
