The blue mosque is a well known monument in Tabriz. Constructed around 1465 it was destroyed in an earthquake around 300 years later. It took another 200 years for it to be reconstructed by a famous architect from Tabriz and is now in use again. You can enter it and wander around admiring the eautiful tiles and the reconstruction. Very recommendable.

It's the unique and must-see highlight of Tabriz, some parts are under construction but don't miss it if you are visiting Tabriz.

The mosque was built in 1465, massive stone dome and extensive blue tiles used to decorate it. Unfortunately there was an earthquake in th 1770's which damaged the art work. The repair work is still ongoing. Would say it needs quite some time, as it looked like not even 50% done. The exterior is still missing most of its outer casing of tiles.

Cannot really complain about the price, but 150.000 entrance fee feels a bit hefty compared to the cost of other things here. The inside is accessible and has intact blue tiles, but there isn't a lot too see. The outside used to have the blue tiles as well, but apart from the front side, most is gone.

Perhaps this Mosque does not have the beauties of other mosques in Isfahan and Shiraz but it is quite unique in Iran due to the original blue of its interiors. Unfortunately an earthquake destroyed most of the building, which is now a mix between the glorious past and the daily reconstruction.

Turquoise Of Islam is the title of this special mosque because of the blue color you can find original parts of the mosque. It was built during JahanShah Kara Koyunlu in 14656. In 1779 an earthquake damaged most of the mosque including it's special domes and for 150 years ruins were left there but a restoration project 1939-1977 was done on this historical site and made it like what today you can visit.
