Visited Mavana in 2017 and saw the outside of this beautiful Assyrian church. Was proud to see that it was still in good condition. My ancestors lived in Mavana like so many other Assyrians did in the early 1900s before eventually leaving for the cities of Iran and then eventually to the western world. Seeing the church highlights the importance of the Assyrians in Iran and also the significance of Christianity in Iran. I hope this history remains for generations to come.

Mary's Church is another church located 32 kilometers west of Urmia in the village of Mavana. Inscriptions in Aramaic trace the construction of this church to 1879 AD.
