visiting Shapour cave is combination with mountain climbing and ancient site visiting which take you almost one day. An artistic statue was carved inside this cave in time of Sassanid empire that is amazing. Firstly, you have to visit Kashkuli village and move to the hillside at the end of the driving path. You find the sign of cave in the foothill. After about one hour and a half walking you will reach a staircase near the cave that facilitates your access to the cave. The height of Shapur cave is about 800 meters from the sea level. After this hard walking, an about six-meter statue appears in front of you, in the entrance of the cave that was carved artistically. Shapur statue is the tallest sculpture that is remained from Sassanid empire and years before. The entrance of the cave is approximately 30 meters and the statue shines like a jewel. you must bring a appropriate headlight and shoes for visiting the cave which is intresting. The Best months to visit the cave are February, March and October.

To reach the Shapur I Cave you will have to walk for approximately 1h30 from the Shahpour village. The best time of the day to start your hike is around 6:00 AM when the air is fresch and you can still walk in the shadow of the surrounding mountains. Visiting the cave is free, but you better walk with a local guide. The fee for the local guide may be in the order of 7. The views during the walk and from the entrance of the cave are stunning, especially with the early morning light. Although the 8m hihg statue of Shapur I at the entrance of the cave has been damaged in the past and not always restaured very well, it is quite impressive. Behind the statue there is a barrier with indications saying "Do not go any further". If you are on your own, I would certainly recommend you to follow that advice. However, if you are walking with a local guide, these know to find their way throughout the dark cave. In that case also take with you a torch with sufficient batter power to have light for the whole of your visit.

2 hours mountain climbing going up and 1 hours exploring the cave and resting (do not forget a powerful torch) 1.5 hours coming down. You almost need to specify a day to bishapur.

The Shapoor Cave is great place to see, to get there you need to hike for one and half hour and take a water bottle or any thing helps you to hike, the staircases you see in pictures of internet are just at the cave opening but most of the path is rocky
