This is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited in my life. Amazing System, brilliant engineering, and extraordinary architecture and nature are all coming together in this place. If you ever happen to visit Iran, make a plan to visit this amazing place.

Amazing oldest and ancient hydraulic system across the world registered as world heritage by UNESCO. I strongly recommend you to take your kids and school children to observe how it was working and when and how Persians design and innovate this system?!
Making an incredible hydraulic system to catch the water from Karoon river and use it to run the huge mills and get it to 10000 hectares of farm , about 2500 years ago in Achaemenid and Sasanid period .
Like any other 'tourist' (they call Iranians from other provinces tourists lol) attractions in Iran, it is imperative to pay a tour guide cum translator with you if you can't speak or understand Farsi. You will not regret it. Don't forget to bring sunscreen and shades to prevent extreme temperature.
Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System, a system of interconnected tunnels, waterfalls, bays, mills and large water channels that work together with great harmony and continuity and have been built in the Achaemenid to Sassanian periods for more water use.Assigning this collection to Darius the Great.
UNESCO world heritage site including around 13 incredible engineered hand made structures and facilities.
Another Iranian UNESCO World Heritage Site. This engineering wonder has been constructed in the Sassanid period and is some 2000 years old. It consists of a dam and channels excavated in the rock that guide the water from the dam to several water mills. In the 20th century the system was also used to produce electricity.
So beautiful and a symbol of architecture and science, the best season to visit is end of winter and spring.
