The University of Tehran (Tehran University or UT, Persian: دانشگاه تهران\u200e) is the oldest modern university located in Tehran, Iran. It is also one of the most prestigious universities in the Middle East. Based on its historical, socio-cultural, and political pedigree, as well as its research and teaching profile, UT has been nicknamed "The Mother University of Iran" (Persian: دانشگاه مادر\u200e). It has been ranked as one of the best universities in the Middle East in national and international rankings and among the top universities in the world. It is also the premier knowledge producing institute among all OIC countries. The university offers more than 111 bachelor's degree programs, 177 master's degree programs, and 156 Ph.D. programs. Many of the departments were absorbed into the University of Tehran from the Dar al-Funun established in 1851 and the Tehran School of Political Sciences established in 1899.

The University of Tehran is not a university. It is a special symbol of Tehran that sometimes smells of politics, sometimes of science. I hope UNESCO agrees to register it as a World Heritage Site.

I got my undergrad degree here and have helped many foreign visitors to get inside to see around, as it's not allowed to just walk in. I am quite sure every one who visits this place likes it. and I like it too as a place to hang around and see old friends. On the other unfortunately the education quality for Math department is disappointingly low. almost every student in the department is dissatisfied with it.
A very excellent academic institution I will like to have an exchange programme. As a geographer in University for Development Studies - Ghana. I wish to visit the faculty of geography.
